The harbor wall at Port Isaac is a different building when the water drops away. Chains that looked decorative at noon hang straight down to weed and stone, and the boats sit in their own small craters of mud.
I walked out as far as the last lobster pot and turned around only when the shine came back on the sand. A dog found a crab and lost interest. The café above the slipway was still closed, which made the whole cove feel borrowed.
Two hours after low water, before the slipway café unlocked.
